How to thread a needle at 1 am

Wow, I am beat! I had a fun weekend, but it was spent mostly on finishing that sweater for my mother. I spent many moments dodging her prying eye, but trying to spend time with her as well. How do you hide a chunky sweater and knitting needles while trying to watch TV with your dear mum? It's difficult, si. Here are some pics from the BBQ on Saturday.

Nicholas says HI! He's such a big boy now.

Derek mans the grill.

If I try to explain what Anthony is doing (tai chi) its less funny, so just note the colored socks instead and smile.

Time to sing and have cake. Brannan is very excited!

A wonderful moment between mommy and baby.

And now for the sweater. I decided to make my mother a cardigan. It was gonna be something she could wear casual or dressed up and I didn't want boring colors. So here we go.

Yarn: Moda Dea Cartwheel in Bronzeberry - 12 balls - 77 yds each
Pattern: Moda Dea

I knitted furiously in the last 48 hours. And for those who think its easy to tack on two sleeves and buttons, you are so wrong. Wrong, I say!! It took me ten hours to do the finishing on this sweater. Not to mention, the whole right panel was off - I reknitted it. I now have RSS (repetitive stress syndrome) in my right shoulder and arm. I need a realignment, no joke. Who said knitting was relaxing? But here are the results at 1 AM. It is DIFFICULT to thread a needle that late. But I was pushing my own limits, dammit, and no one was gonna stop me!

I finished at precisely 12.50 AM to be exact, this morning. I crawled into bed, my eyes feeling throbby, shoulders achy. And as I closed my eyes, it occurred to me after an hour that I wasn't going to fall asleep. And so I didn't. I think I was either too wired, too amped, or too tired. I woke up, got dressed and ready for the airport. I hung the sweater out in the living room and when my mom saw it this was her reaction.

And this was her in it. She looks great!

All worth it! I have never been so challenged and I am truly so grateful this is done. And I'm proud of myself too. Check out the awesome shoulder seams, man. That's first timer's touch :)

Can you make me like 500000000 of those? I'll pay you 50 cents each.

If I make 500000000000 (did I get the zeroes right?) my arm will be cramped up over my head! And by the way, The Gap has one of the better overseas policies for manufacturing, so people are getting paid a fair wage for their standard of living. Still, you're right, prolly still 50 cents ;P

Thanks everyone!!

OH MY GOSH MICHELLE! That cardi is AWESOME! Big fat first place for you, m'dear. And your momma looks awesome in it too. AND, i think this still fits in the declaration you made once to never knit anything that pulls over one's head. Rock on, purl bad, rock on.

So beautiful, and full of love.
Also, I never realized before how much you and your mom look alike. I guess lovliness runs in the family. ;)

Do you make mittens?

nlThanks Knitbad! You're a knitterly (amongst many other things) inspiration to me :)

Bethany ~ thanks, that's such a sweet thing to say/share. Thanks for the smooch.

Eman ~ I have never knitted mittens, however, I should. There are lots of folks in cold areas who need them.

Beautiful sweater. Great job!

Kinda off topic... In that picture of Nicolas, it looks like he's sporting one wicked looking hairhawk. Cool kid!!

thank you everyone!

clarian ~ nicholas doesn't have a hairhawk :) but i wish he did! its actually a shadow from the bark on the fence that gives him the hairhawky nature :)

Rock on! The cardi looks great! Seriously, the only thing worse than knitting a sleeve...is knitting the other one. Or maybe seaming is worse. I'm not sure.

Congrats! What's next?
