Last night, Marvin talked about worrying. Or rather, he spoke of
not worrying. Seriously, how does one not worry? Each of us carry so much and there is so much trouble in the world. Yet, Marvin said, when we have gratitude, it seems to alleviate alot of what bogs us down. Not just focusing on the positive, mind you, but really being thankful. And to be thankful, it helps to have someone to thank. And so I thank God. He has given me so much. People to be thankful for, rent, clothes, the roof over my head, my talents, my health, the limitless opportunity that lies ahead in my life. When I think about these gifts, I am reminded that God makes a way for me. Gratitude is the attitude, Marvin said.
Yet how is it that we love to focus on the one negative thing that is in our path? I have heard that trauma sticks with us longer than happiness. Our brain remembers us trauma longer and the psychological etchings seem to carve into our lives. And while it isn't easy to overcome, I know that when we practice gratitude, there is a way that our hearts become attuned to the good. And just as negativity has a way of sucking us dry,I know that gratitude has a way of lifting us up - and most importantly, others too.
Mini-cupakes from Mrs. Beasley's with some of the "originators" of Thanksgiving - the pilgrims. Incidentally, why don't we put native Americans on our Thanksgiving paraphernalia?!
