Rest in Peace, Midi and Nathan

Everything I know about this family are all good things. Over the course of the next few days, I know people will be blogging about how wonderful they are individually and as a family.

I only spent a minimal amount of time with Midi "Millie" Mikasa (nee Kim) and Mark Mikasa at UCLA. They were graduating by the time I was a freshman at UCLA but I remember them going to my church, Mosaic. I remember Mark and Midi bringing their babies, Nathan and Lucas to be dedicated as far back when we were still meeting at the downtown Club SoHo.

The next time I would see them would be at the Mosaic service at Beverly Hills High where Chris and I are volunteers at the preschool ministry. I have a vague memory of asking whether or not Mark remembered me from UCLA and I remembered him saying yes. He told me they were living in Carson. After Mark and Midi dropped them off, Chris and I were in charge of them and several other infants. Nathan and Lucas - so sweet, so shy, they clung to each other while the others played. Slightly intimidated, they stood in the corner for all of 45 minutes! We tried luring them with toys, songs, and smiles but to no avail. No matter, they were just content holding onto each other, observing at the other kids. After we packed up for the day, Chris and I laughed about how cute those two were.

Such a small memory, evoked by such a tragic loss. To everyone who knows Midi and Nathan and Lucas and Mark, no matter how much or how little, you were probably blessed by them. Please. Let us pray.

Mr. Mikasa is my Algebra 2 teacher. As much as I don't know him, it's a pain and a deep shock to see something like this happen to him. I know that many other people out there are praying for his recovery as well as for his wife and kids. Get well soon.........

Oh no! What sad, sad news!

We saw the Mikasas at the Mosaic nursery several times, too. We didn't talk much, since we were each wrestling twin boys, but they were always smiling. It was encouraging to just see them around.

It's so heartbreaking to think of what's happened now. They're definitely in our thoughts and prayers!

I don't know this family, but I know all too well what it is like to lose family. But what great comfort in knowing that Midi and Nathan are with Jesus now! I will be praying for their family's comfort. If there is anything I can do let me know.
