Kitty and Redskins

Today, Chris and I opened up a joint checking account. Originally it was for the purpose of having a separate place from which we could draw monies for the wedding, but we realized that we will keep the account once we get married. Not to mention, I knew of a couple who took cash gifts in lieu of the obligatory small appliance and had an account opened up for that purpose. As we were deciding on what kind of account to get, I said at one point, "Well sweetie, this is an account we'll be using... forever." Forever!

We were given the option to fancify our cards. The teller handed us a catalog with some options. The two cards would be the same. We had a bit of a Gift of the Magi moment when he offered to get a Hello Kitty card and I offered that we should get Washington Redskins cards. We settled on a card with a beautiful mosaic of children on it instead.

As we approach our wedding date, I find myself doing these sort of things: opening up joint checking accounts, thinking about which side of the bed I would sleep on, how we would spend our money, and the like. And from my very own mouth, I found myself asking the teller this question," Am I able to change my name on the account after I get married?" Yes, he said.

I looked at Chris, who was smiling.
