Breaking laws, knitting hats, and the new year

So much for the whole non-gift-giving resolution! I actually ended up making most of my gifts and I'm still in debt to quite a few folks. I think my knitting abilities increased about ten notches over three days in the Bay Area. My mom and I spent countless hours watching the rain fall on the old patio, and chatted, our needles clicking away, the time passing by slowly yet swiftly. Its these moments when we realize we love our families, perhaps doing nothing grandiose, but simply experiencing their presence, their smells, and the intangible connection to a person who shares your bloodlines.

We ventured out several times to a sumptious store in Saratoga called Knitting Arts. Nestled in a small shopping plaza, we entered into a world of colors, textures and the quiet concentration of people focused on their craft.

I loved watching my mother touch the yarns, the knitted projects and to see her imagination open up. It is inevitable, as an artist, to grow excited at the possibility of all the things that could happen with all these incredible tools.

All that said, this is one of the projects that came about:

Brannan was very happy to receive his felted antennae hat. For all you knitters out there, it couldn't have been easier. I loved this felted project, which essentially aggravates the natural wool and turns it into a piece of, you guessed it, felt!

So, after several knitted projects, many movies (Go KING KONG!), some apple launching through PVC pipes, I still think that celebrating the passing of time is a bit absurd. But if they decided to turn back time, then its occasion for partying! :) Nonetheless, I thank you, all my faithful friends, for caring about my life enough to check in! Happy 2006 !!

I hear you on the family stuff. It's so nice just to be able to sit around and just *be* together.
